To become an official tourist guide in Tallinn it is necessary to pass the guiding exam and be awarded a guiding licence.

In 2012 the guiding examination is coordinated by the Tallinn City Enterprise Board.

 The first part of the examination is a written test. Test questions are in Estonian. Successful applicants, who have passed the test will be able to take the next parts, consisting of a bus and walking tour.

There is no requirement to pass a special guiding course prior to the examination.
